Do you know where your meat comes from?

Your Farmer runs an ecologically managed, family farm tucked away in a secluded valley of the beautiful Southern Highlands. Our stock grazes on rich pastures produced using biodynamic and rotational grazing, we produce:

the purest organic meat with no hormones or chemicals in an environmentally sustainable way.

Our beef is naturally soft, succulent and full of flavour! Why? Because we take the time. Our cows have a good life, they are not force-fed or unnaturally fattened. Our biodynamic grass-fed beef takes 3-4 months longer to mature than grain-fed beef and contains less fat than chicken. We then dry-age our beef using age-old methods. You get the purest, tastiest and healthiest beef on the market. There are no intermediaries. Our produce comes directly from the farm to you at the lowest possible price.

Our Community Supported Agriculture scheme makes this possible. Your subscription lets you get to know us and our farming practices. Your subscription provides quality for you and the security needed for us to focus on environmentally sustainable farming giving the highest quality produce.

Know your farmer, know your food

In 2005 Melissa and David began a journey. Having farmed cattle for many years we came to feel the way beef was produced seemed set up only for the supermarkets and butchers, not your family. Breeds which were strong in flavour and good for you were shunned in favour of those which grow fast in feedlots. Giving poor quality produce full of fat. Not to mention what they put in the sausages!!!

We began selling direct to families, so we could know the people who ate our food. Having this close connection with our customers enabled us to start a selective breeding program. Carefully selecting for traits that produced a low fat, high flavour meat which was both good for you and tastes great.

The high-quality meat in our monthly deliveries has taken us three years to grow, slowly and carefully, using only natural grasses, our own unique breed of cattle, biodynamic methods, and absolutely no chemicals. We have then slowly dry aged the beef in our dedicated coolrooms to enhance the flavour, and then cryovaced using specialised machinery so your produce remains as fresh as the day we packed it. We call this Artisan Beef – please enjoy the fruits of three years work, we loved growing it for you.

Your Farmer’s meat is 100% pasture raised and fed.

Our beef, compared with supermarket products, is lower in fat and calories – it offers you more of the “good” fats and fewer “bad” fats. There are a number of nutritional benefits of grass-fed animals.

Meat from grass-fed cattle is lower in total fat. It can have up to one-third less fat than from a grain-fed animal. In fact, grass-fed beef can have the same amount of fat as skinless chicken breast [1]. Research shows that lean beef actually lowers your “bad” LDL cholesterol levels [2].

Our beef is richer in antioxidants; including vitamins E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. It does not contain traces of added hormones, antibiotics or other drugs.

IMG_2660-300x234We work little differently to the other ways you might buy food. Our model is designed to be a win for the consumer and for the farmer. This is at odds to conventional models where the retailer makes all the money and the farmer and consumer come off second best. This model is known as Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA. 

A CSA subscription guarantees you a share of our yearly harvest. We allocate a fixed number of shares based on the number of livestock that can be ethically run for a given season. In good years as those stock grow bigger we all receive a bit more meat, in poorer years when the cows grow a little smaller we get a little less. We both share in the bounties and tribulations that our boss, Nature, brings us. Each share entitles you to a Your Farmer meat pack (see below) delivered to your home each month. We pack your meat in small portions so they are easily taken from the fridge/freezer and cooked without needing to re-freeze anything.

Your meat is vacuum packed to seal in its freshness. Vacuum packed meat can be stored up to two weeks in the refrigerator and one year in the freezer. When frozen your meat won't get freezer burn, it will stay as fresh and tasty as when it was first packed.
