My approach to ecological agriculture

My agroecological approach extends beyond regenerative and organic methods. It has dual goals: helping farmers take advantage of natural systems to increase production, and providing superior nutritional food outcomes for consumers.

Over the last decade — beginning during my undergraduate studies — I have developed an outcomes-based assessment model for ecological farming. I use this model today when working with farmers to help them build ecologically robust agroecosystems for their farms and businesses.

I'm currently undertaking a Master of Agricultural Science with the goal of furthering research into practical applications of biological farming systems and author of the Your Farmer Certified eight-outcome standard (2014)

Founder of Your Farmer

Alongside my work as a farmer and agronomist, I'm an entrepreneur with a background that spans agricultural science, ecology, and technology. I've previously built startups in the education and healthcare sectors.

Your Farmer is a farmgate-to-plate ecosystem that enables ecological farmers to supply consumers directly, while gaining the economies of scale that come from grouping together. It's a marketplace designed to connect consumers with good food, grown ecologically — but it isn't open to anyone. The price of entry is a commitment to ecological growing, whether a producer is just starting out on that path or already well advanced.

My goal with Your Farmer is to grow ecological agriculture as a movement: giving committed farmers a viable route to market, and giving consumers direct access to food grown in line with the same ecological principles I apply in my agronomy practice.

Why I write

Articles I publish on the Your Farmer blog draw on my work as a practising farmer, agronomist, and researcher. Where I make claims about soil biology, animal welfare, regenerative practice, or food nutrition, those claims are grounded in my fieldwork, formal study, or peer-reviewed research — and I'll cite sources where relevant.

Frequently Grazed Queries

What is eco-grown Grass Fed beef and lamb, and how does it differ from certified organic beef?

Answer: Eco-grown Grass Fed beef and lamb comes from livestock raised on farms that focus on ecological processes rather than inputs (either conventional or organic). Ecological standards that go beyond organic’s “no chemical” rules and create a truly holistic system.

  • 100% Grass Fed, grass-finished; no grain ever.
  • Soils are audited for soil biology, water management, and biodiversity.
  • Certified organic checks inputs; eco-grown measures ecological outcomes.

Choose eco-grown for paddock-to-plate flavour plus measurable sustainability.
